Yesterday we went to the Lexington Museum with Joshua's 2nd grade class to learn about the Native Americans who lived in Lexington many years ago. The tour guides did a great job teaching the kids about this part of our state history. He spoke of the 1 building shool house, the games they used to play during the late 1700's, and shared his knowledge on their crafts, early farm life, and then the guide told the kids Cherokee stories.
This is a "fish basket" ... they made these baskets to catch fish. We learned that they were not wasteful and wouldn't catch more than they planned on eating.

This is a "baby basket". Soon after giving birth, the women were expected to get back to work in the fields while the men did their part by hunting to provide meat to their families.
There were several chaperones. We were each given a group of children to look after. I had a great group of girls. We enjoyed our time together, and I was happy that they listened so well.
Here sits a bear ... and his buddy the red fox who lays on top of the raccoon.
