This photo was taken the last time that Joshua was in the hospital. He was born two months premature and stayed in the N.I.C.U for 31 days. He was born at 4 pounds. He was such a tiny little guy, but he had big lungs. We knew right from the start that he was a survivor. He gained strength quickly. In the photo above, I reached my hands into the holes on the sides of his incubator (this was also how we would change his diapers) and he reached out while sleeping and grabbed my fingers. His hands were so small, only the size of my finger tips. We were elated the day the doctor came in and said "alright folks, you can take him home today!" We went home with an apnea monitor which we used for the first two months as he slept. We were lucky to have all the help from the nursing staff while he was in the hospital. Most parents don't get the one on one instruction of "how to" when they have a new baby. That part was a blessing.
